10/19/2008 - ACR-E - Maryland - 11 Zack improved his class rating to 5 with improved 60-time, pop times, receiving grade, and blocking grade. Behind the plate, throws were accurate with some life and carry to it. Once he levels out shoulders, exchange will be quicker. While receiving, had good setup and lets ball travel. Showed firm hands with ability to watch ball in. Will be able to get around all balls once his elbow flexion improves. While blocking, takes decent angles with ability to get glove down early and smoother ball. Improving foot speed and agility will help him recover quicker. At the plate, had decent balance throughout the swing. Showed some bat speed with extension thru ball that produced some pop. Starts barred which makes him come around ball. Once corrected, he will be quicker to hitting zone. Will utilize lower half more once he squares up back foot.

07/14/2008 - College PREP - Fairfax, VA Zack is a young strong player. Behind the plate, Zack has a strong arm and an accurate throw. His stance needs to improve and get lower, but he receives the ball with soft hands and a quiet approach. His blocking ability is average at present time and he must improve his quickness. At the plate, Zack shows bat speed and a level swing. He has raw strength and power and he can increase it by getting the lower half more involved in the swing. He has potential at the plate with some instruction.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
