01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Zane is a two way player as a catcher on the mound with a big, strong looking body that is well suited for both positions. He does project well at both positions where he has a ton of ability. Foot speed is average but does utilize his feet well through the throwing process, behind the plate. Arm strength is above average and will control the running game at the next level as indicated by his consistent low pop time of 1.94. Receiving and blocking skills are near above average. At the plate, Evans has above average ability with well above average power. He sits in, loads well, and maintains solid balance throughout the swing, allowing his hands to work direct and through the baseball, generating plus bat speed. He shows a feel for the barrel as the ball jumps off his bat when centered creating carry and backspin. He will hit for power at the next level. On the mound, fastball is heavy and true showing a solid downhill plane creating tough angles for hitters. Arm strength is outstanding as he topped out at 88 mph. Changeup is his best off speed pitch showing near above average with solid feel and tumbling action. Breaking ball is solid average displaying tight spin with early break. Zane has an upside both as a catcher and pitcher. He will get a ton of looks from the college coaches and scouts.
